If you do things the smart way, you’ll avoid getting burned. First, inspect the tires. Are too worn? Have the been patched or plugged at all? These may proved they’ve been subject to rough use and abuse.

Raise the quad up if you can to inspect the underside. Be certain to look at all the shock points and check for any rust or damage. You may see cracks in the frame. Fresh paint jobs could mean a recent repair.

Strap on your favorite four wheeler helmet and take the ATV for a test ride. Does it start right up easily or is it lethargic? Give it a few hard stops. How are the brakes? How does it handle? The signs are there for you to see if you’re looking.
