Telephone companies are beginning to expand their businesses, adding video services to complement their voice and data offerings. Moreover, local telephone companies are obtaining increased revenue from internet traffic, because many consumers are installing second lines dedicated to Internet traffic. The five regional Bell telephone companies are cheering a federal judge’s decision that could let them enter the long distance market for doing a reverse cell phone search. All old-line telephone companies are now desperately trying to enter the video market in their own regions so that they can begin to show modest growth once again. Here, however, the traditional telephone companies are even less dominant.
