How to Determine if your Betta Fish has Popeye
Have you ever looked at your betta only to see him staring back at you all bug-eyed? If your betta fish is looking at the world through bug eyes, it is likely that he has something known as popeye or exophthalmia. While this may be troubling to you as an owner, the good news is that you can likely treat popeye in your betta fish without much problem. The first thing you are going to want to do is clean out the water. The cause of popeye is most common when they are living in dirty water. This causes stress to your betta and in effect can cause all sorts of diseases. Dirty Water is probably the number one cause of all betta fish ailments. The second thing you should do is do a pH test on the water itself to determine if there are essessive amounts of ammonia, nitrates or nitrites. Once again, excessive amounts of these chemical by products can make for a stressful environment for your fish. If that doesn’t cure popeye, you can always resort to the many topical medications for your fish tank.
