Don’t forget to read your dry cleaning receipt

The next time you have a garment cleaned at your dry cleaners, take a moment and read the back of the receipt that they give you — you’ll notice that it contains a statement that details the limit of their liabilities, if any, if your garment is lost or irreparably damaged while in their care.  With many dry cleaners, they will absolutely refuse to replace or provide you with a cash award if your garment is damaged or lost — placing the garment in their care is legally the equivalent of giving your permission, so don’t forget to think about this the next time you have an expensive garment such as an evening gown or prom dress cleaned.
