08/10 Three main constituents of food
The three main constituents of food are carbohydrates, proteins and fats. Apart from providing energy, they serve as a source of neurotransmitters. When the three are taken in right amounts, the neurotransmitters are produced in appropriate amounts but when the concentration of one rises over others, the level of neurotransmitters also vary and this affects the mood. Note that fast foods are loaded with fats and carbohydrates. If you eat too much fats and carbohydrates, you expose yourself to health risk like diabetes, obesity, hypertension and others. And this won’t be good especially if you want to live a healthy senior lifestyle living. When you eat more carbohydrates, your mood is good because the intake of carbohydrates is associated with an increase in the levels of serotonin.
