In the past I have suggested choosing your goals in terms of what needs to be accomplished to consider your life well-done.  But that still leaves a wide array of choices. 

Perhaps start with your values.  What is most important to you?  Leaving a clean planet for those who follow?  Passing on offspring who will carry your family pride?  Being an inspiration to others?

Once you have outlined your top values, the next question to ask is, "What do I need to do to accomplish this?"

Ah…now we are getting close to defining our goals.  And whatever they are, stick to them.
