01/29 Remo djembe provides a heartbeat
As percussionist, you find yourself sometimes being ridiculed by other musicians because you don’t create music per se. But what do other musicians tend to forget is that without you, the percussionist, there is no beat. And with no beat there is no music. Sure you can have musical instruments playing, but without that driving beat there can be no true music. It’s something that we as percussionists have to deal with, and it’s a load to bear that we embrace. Personally, I found that playing my remo djembe tends to open the eyes of those other musicians as they feel the heartbeat that the drum creates to the music.
